Welcome to Pure Zelda Classic, one of the most popular Zelda Classic resources on the web. At this site, you will find quests, graphics, and music created by Zelda Classic fans, forums for discussion and help, as well as the hosting of Zelda Classic quest projects. To get started, just choose what you would like to do from the menu on the left. And don't forget to register so that you can share your work with the Zelda Classic community, as registration is absolutely free ($0.00)!
Just one new submission and two updates here to pass into the permanent database location:
Quest Update: Rise of Ganon, by Kenster
Tiles: Edited Dead Tree and Small Tree, by Sheik
Music Update: Stone Tower Temple - NES Version, by Saffith
Here is another news flash: I know that some of you are sick and tired of hearing them, but lately we have had an usually high volume of submissions that were unacceptable and thus didn't make it to our database. This is more so than I have ever seen since I began contributing to the process. This has especially been true for quest submissions, mostly from people who never visit our discussion forums, or at least never post in them. Our only two new quest submissions have been rejected. So rather than talk about it on the forums where you probably won't see it anyway, I will say some things here where you will hopefully see it and help steer you in the right direction.
Before submitting any quest to the database, follow these common sense suggestions, main ideas in bold and caps:
1. PLAY YOUR OWN QUEST.
I can't possibly overemphasize this. Nobody is too good to do that. Just ask the best quest makers. You have to see if everything you do works. If all you do is build the quest in ZQuest but don't play it for yourself in Zelda Classic (the separate player), how can you just assume that everything will just magically work? Most of the worst rated quests in the database are where they are because those who made those quests either didn't test them out thoroughly or didn't test them out at all, and most likely didn't ask for support when they should have. As staff, we mainly just see if those quests work, since we typically don't have time to really play through them, as we also have lives to live.
2. IF YOU NEED SUPPORT, USE THE DISCUSSION FORUMS.
Chances are, there are plenty of people around who are able to help you with whatever you are having trouble with. There are also tutorials available on the forums to help you with some common issues. Lurk, research, or better yet, communicate! Most people here are friendly and willing to help you when they can. The link is on the left hand side of the main page, and is bold for a good reason. It is also where you end up when you log in, also for a good reason. It's the heart of the community. Take advantage of the resources available to you on the forums.
3. Finally, MAKE SURE YOUR SUBMISSION FOLLOWS ALL THE RULES.
Unless you are completely familiar with them and you are confident that all these rules are followed, you should never skip reading this. Any submission rules that are broken are grounds for your submission not making it to our database when it is updated by one of us staff people. And if we fail to catch something, chances are it might get deleted later after you deal with the humiliation of receiving a bunch of zero star ratings.
These set of standards, which (believe it or not) aren't anywhere close to the very highest that we could set, are necessary to minimize the amount of non-functional or plagiarized material in the database. Would a certified used car dealer sell a car without a working engine? Well, they could, but they would get a very bad reputation in little time. Think about it.
In conclusion, when submitting anything, use common sense, or if you need simple words that any mass audience can understand: Stop. Think. Read. Ask. But at the same time, we can only do so much to keep peoples' thinking caps on. I hope this has been enlightening. Have a nice day.
Just a reminder:
Whenever you submit anything to the database, please be sure to name -ALL- of the files that you submit so that whoever looks at them with no context knows what goes to what.
You'd be amazed how many times we'd see a page full of "zelda001.bmp" files in here with no clue as to which quest they go to.
To rename a file, left-click on it, and hit F2. Include the quest name in the filename too. If the quest name is "Link in a Box" name the quest file "LinkInABox.qst" and the screenshots "LinkInABoxSS1.bmp" and so on.
The reason for this reminder, is that the methods the staff have to jump through to process these files dumps all of the files into the same page. If they're all named zelda001.bmp, it's not easy to tell what picture goes to what quest.
Just a quick reminder for all of you, after uploading content, your work is not immediately put into the database. It still has to be processed by staff, and due to the time it takes to process submissions, we like to do them in bulk. Sorry if this is confusing, but it's always good to remind everyone that uploading the same thing multiple times won't get it up on the site. Thank you.
Quests:
- Update: STEAK!!, by Kenster
- The Quest of Beings, by Eddy23911
I was going to mention this last week, but forgot: We have a new affiliate. Some of you may already be familiar with the site: ZCRealm. It's a site run by Nick and LinktheMaster, two former Site Staff of PureZC with a vision for something new in a Zelda Classic site: A place for 2.5 resources. There you can find a database that includes quests and tilesets in the 2.5 builds, demos, and scripts. Membership in any Zelda Classic site is a benefit for Zelda Classic as a whole.
Good evening to you all! Sit here by the warm fireplace and enjoy these treats.
Quests:
- STEAK!!, by Kenster
Tiles:
- Wind Waker Hylian, by Beta Link
- Eight Elements - BS Style Shading, by Alestance
And just a little notice: Please make sure you spell check your submission before you send it along its merry way. I had to delete one submission due to gross misspellings all over the map and I also had to fix some spacing after punctuation in another. If anybody wishes to have a lesson, I would be happy to give it. Just ask. I wish you all a very good night.
